vikings in space

hey it's been awhile since i posted anything on here, not that i haven't been bored, i've just been too drunk all the time to properly type, so yeah. i also realized there's only a couple music postings, and they're both rap. i don't intend to do a "music blog" but i'll try to keep a good balance of music, weird articles and bitchy rants about my stupid life and shit that pisses me off.
anyway, i'm a pretty big fan of the Norwegian black metal/prog rock band enslaved, but am debating whether it's worth paying 30 bucks to see them open for gay-ass opeth. enslaved has been around for 17 years or so and started as a pretty straight up black metal band, appearing on a darkthrone tribute comp and releasing the killer demo "yggdrsil". over the years the group has changed members several times and broadened their sound to the point where you can barely tell it's the same band, which disillusioned a lot of metal purists. well, metal purists are assholes who expect bands to just make the same album over and over, so fuck them. i'll admit it took a few listens to get into "vertebrae" but it has definitely crept into my subconscious. on this album the band delves even deeper into a spacey prog sound, incorporating lots of atmospheric keyboards, trippy effects and haunting melodies. at times this reminds me of a metal pink floyd, which in my book is an extremely good thing. so pull the stick out of yer ass, take a couple bong hits and give this record a chance, why don't cha?

  1. I just got around to listening to this. It's pretty fucking good, but it is a bit wimpy here and there. That's OK. I can dig wimpy. I like Eliott Smith. Besides, I forgot to get stoned first (had to get my homework done). Thanks a bunch.
